Who is Fadilah Majid?
Ms Fadilah graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1987 with Bachelor of Arts, 2nd Class Honors degree in Economics.
She started her career in Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) as a business journalist, writing economics and business stories for Berita Harian / Berita Minggu and rose to become the Business Editor, taking charge of the business desk known as Ekoniaga. Throughout her 27 years in Berita Harian, Ms Fadilah covered local and overseas assignments. She travelled extensively to America, Europe, Malaysia, Taiwan, Korea and Indonesia to cover international meetings and conferences – including Leaders/Ministerial Meeting of Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (Apec), World Trade Organization (WTO) meetings, Asean Ministerial Meeting, as well as International Halal Conference in London. She also wrote commentaries and thought provoking articles on business and economics issues especially relating to small and medium enterprise (SME) in Singapore and the region.
After 27 years as a Business Editor, she decided to leave a comfortable job to enter the business world. She bought over Spa Jelita in May 2014. Spajelita has been an established brand and is the only Arabian spa in Singapore. She believes the spa industry is an important part of Singapore’s health and wellness sector and is one of the few businesses to have demonstrated resilience. Also driving her decision is a reason more sentimental in nature – her passion and love for beauty, spa and wellness. She has been a spa goer since her younger days till today, be it in Singapore or overseas.
On the competitive spa market, she holds to her personal philosophy that the spa market is big enough for as many quality competition as it can be. Ms Fadilah views competition with respect and love to interact with entrepreneurs from the same industry.
She is currently the Vice President of Singapore Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Singapore. For the love of the spa industry, she leads the committee for wellness cluster of the Malay Chamber. Wellness Cluster is for the wellness businesses to come together overcoming competition mindset, collaborate and complement, leading to the integration and growth.
Besides running a spa, Ms Fadilah is also the director (business development) of Bizmedia Publishing, a translation and media services company, founded by her and partners in May 2014.
